Why is this rod worth so much?
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/o...ht=smiting+rod
Could someone explain why this smiting rod 20/20 is worth so much? Highest bid so far is 35e. I would expect the most it would get would be 30-40K because of the 20/20. Thanks! |

It's old school. Old school items are generally worth more than "new" items.

Perhaps because it's back from a time one couldn't mod weapons as easily as we can today, with inscriptions.

I say 5 k..
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/40/40 If the skin does not matter to you, Gertrud in Vasburg Armory and Telamon in Leviathan Pits can craft perfect 40/40 sets. this is why powertrades works... |

So if I have a fire staff that drops in Prophecy/Faction that has perfect mods and no inscription slot, that makes it old school and worth a lot?

Traders like to overpay for "old school"(no inscription, perfect mods) weapons that are readily available elsewhere for the gold text. Items like that are rare drops, and rare or desired skins can increase perceived value.

Personal preference (I can do without them. lol.). Some people ("collectors") like paying a lot for the things like those. |

Also, a lot of people who have been playing for years, have a LOT of gold. So paying 35e for something you want is no biggie.

It is like art buyers in RL. Most of us don't see the value of a painting, but people with money MAKE it valuable. Gotta spend it something!

Still, 35e seems a bit extravagant for a req. 10. Guess I need to watch what drops much more closely.

Real life or Game life, everything is worth what someone will pay for it.

The fact that is it non inscribable and 20/20 will make the price much higher. It's really not a hard concept to understand. :\
